These fish are typically line shy and a bit skittish. A technique that's works well and is a bit of a different presentation is to use Iron Jigs to catch these fish. The yellowfin prefer smaller baits this time of year, so stick with smaller jigs. Great choices would be IRON MAN #1, #2, #3 or #5 or the KICKER 15 light or heavy. Good color choices are blues and greens. Cast the Jigs at kelp patties or while the boat is sliding through porpoise schools, (Yellowfin travel with porpoise) or on the slide after a hookup trolling. Be sure to let the jig sink for a bit, then crank it back to the boat. Small jigs are deadly on Yellowfin, as welll as, Dorado and Yellowtail. Call our pro staff with any questions about this technique. 714-899-9955

Warm Water Currents

California anglers have a smorgasbord of species to catch on offshore trips this season. If conditions and the weather stay stable, we are in for some fantastic fishing the rest of the Summer and well into the Fall. Seasurface temperature charts are currently showing a wide band of warm water from Cabo San Lucas all the way up to the Channel Islands. The fishing within this band of water is outstanding for a variety of offshore species. The warm water is holding quality Yellowfin Tuna to 60 pounds, kelp paddy Yellowtail to 30 pounds, Dorado and a few Bigeye Tuna. The outside edge of this warm water is holding Albacore to 40 pounds and Bluefin Tuna up to 80 pounds. Fantastic offshore fishing is on tap, you don't want to miss this action! Grab your Jig rod, Iron Man Lures and Kicker Jigs and go have some fun!

Candyman Jig with Fixed Single Hook

The "New" Candyman Surface iron is now available with a fixed single hook.
